Bladesmithing & Knifemaking Metals
Brass, copper & aluminum for knife furniture and accents. Non-ferrous metals for custom knives — guards, pommels, spacers, and accents.
Recommended Alloys
Non-ferrous metals for knife guards, pommels, spacers, and decorative handle components.
6061-T6 Aluminum
Bolsters, guards & handle frames
The most machinable structural aluminum — ideal for CNC-milled bolsters, guard plates, and handle frames. Anodizes well for color-matched fittings. Strong enough for full-tang through-bolts and pins.
Brass 260
Guards, pommels & fittings
Cartridge brass is the standard for knife furniture. Rich gold color, easy to solder and pin to the tang, and takes both polish and patina beautifully. Machines cleanly for bolsters, guard slots, and threaded pommels.
C110 Copper
Accents & spacers
Pure copper adds warmth to handle stacks and is easy to shape on a belt grinder. Develops a natural patina over time that complements wood and leather handles. Popular for mosaic pins, spacers, and decorative inlays.
