Marine & Offshore Metals

Saltwater-rated aluminum, stainless steel & brass. Aluminum, stainless steel, and brass alloys rated for saltwater and marine environments.

Recommended Alloys

Marine-grade metals across three metal families — each serving a different role in saltwater environments.

5086-H116

Premium marine aluminum

ABS-certified for boat hulls and marine structures. The premium choice for saltwater exposure — superior corrosion resistance with good weldability and strength. H116 temper specifically designed for marine service.

ASTM B928ABS Certified

5083-H321

Welded marine structures

Highest strength non-heat-treatable marine aluminum. Ideal for welded boat structures, hulls, and superstructures where strength after welding matters most.

ASTM B928ASTM B209

5052-H32

General saltwater service

Excellent corrosion resistance at a lower cost point than 5086. Standard for marine tanks, hardware, and general saltwater-exposed components. Easy to form and weld.

ASTM B209AMS 4015

316 / 316L Stainless

Marine-grade hardware

Molybdenum content provides superior resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion. The standard for marine fasteners, fittings, and any stainless component in saltwater environments.

ASTM A240ASTM A276

464 Naval Brass

Seawater-exposed fittings

Purpose-built for seawater service. Naval brass adds tin to the standard brass composition for dezincification resistance — critical for underwater valves, fittings, and propeller components.

ASTM B21

Building a boat?

Start with 5052-H32 for most marine projects. Upgrade to 5086-H116 for hull plating where ABS certification is required. Use 316 stainless for hardware and 464 naval brass for through-hulls.
